For over 280 years, York Theatre Royal has been at the heart of drama in the historic city of York, earning its place as one of the UK’s leading producing theatres. Welcoming more than 200,000 visitors annually, it offers a diverse programme of performances, events, and activities, highlighted by its beloved annual pantomime.

The Challenge

York Theatre Royal approached us once again to provide promotional vinyls for three large, road-facing arch windows on their listed building. Previously, the vinyls had been vulnerable to vandalism due to a bus stop located directly outside the theatre, so we needed to explore a more durable, tamper-resistant solution. Additionally, the windows back onto the theatre’s café area, so it was important to maintain natural light and avoid completely obstructing the view for café patrons.

The Solution

We presented the theatre with three tailored options:

Option 1: Apply clear vinyl to the bottom third of all three arch windows. The vinyl would be fitted internally, with mirrored print and a white ink backing to ensure visibility of the graphics from outside while maintaining openness above.

Option 2: Use Contravision vinyl on the full middle arch window. This one-way privacy film allows café visitors to see out while displaying promotional graphics externally, keeping the space bright and welcoming.

Option 3: A combination of the above to get the best-balanced mix of visibility, light, and graphic impact.

To ensure each campaign achieved maximum visibility and stayed current, we planned the installation and removal of all vinyls well in advance, aligning closely with the theatre’s marketing schedule.

Beyond window graphics, we continue to provide York Theatre Royal with a wide range of printed marketing materials, including programmes, posters, direct mail, and support for their charity events.
