Meet the team – Ben Imeson
What is your role at Platinum and what does your day-to-day look like?
I work in the sales team, where my day-to-day focuses on understanding & problem-solving to ensure my customers get what they need, when they need it—whether through email, phone, or face-to-face interactions. With such a diverse product range, every day brings something new.
How long have you been working in this industry, and what drew you to it?
Hmm, 27 years! Honestly, I thought I’d last three months in print—if I even made it through probation. After juggling weekend split shifts as a chef, I needed a change. When I saw an ad for a print finisher, I had no idea what that meant, but the promise of day shifts and better pay caught my attention. With a Diploma in Art and Design in hand, I figured—why not give it a shot?
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I enjoy coffee meetings and lunches—getting to know people and keeping the conversation away from work. But I also love seeing the monthly figures!
What skills or qualities do you think are essential for success in your role?
I have no idea, I’m totally winging it! I don’t like hearing NO and always look for a solution, while treating people how I would want to be treated.
What’s your favourite way to spend your free time?Running—or cycling if I’m injured—is a lifelong passion. There’s nothing I’d rather do or talk about. Ideally, I’m in the mountains, but even the road will do. I love it, and luckily, my wife feels the same. Even our kids are getting into these amazing sports—just not with us!
What’s a fun fact about you that most people don’t know?
I had a long bike ride with Andrew Ridgley from Wham once whilst in Spain.
Do you have a favourite travel destination or a dream place you’d like to visit?
Not really—I’d love to explore more of our own island. Italy has been great, and we’ve visited a few places already. Fingers crossed for New York next year for the marathon! Adidas once had a campaign about traveling the world 26.2 miles at a time, and I love that idea.
If you weren’t in this profession, what would you be doing?
NO clue, that’s why I am here!
If you were stranded on a desert island, what three things would you bring?
Just the Family! I don’t need anything else, presuming the sands soft enough to run on barefoot!
